monkey see, monkey do

The other day when I visited one of my favorite new shops in town, I discovered an amazing backdrop they had in the display window. It's hard to describe the giddiness I feel inside when I say to myself in my head, "I can totally make that!". So I tell the shop owner how amazing it is and how I wish they were selling it (hah, not a chance). I immediately start brainstorming my own version of the project.

Since I have an abundance of denim scraps at the shop from jean hems, what would be more perfect than a rainy denim curtain. So here's what I did:

Supplies:
Denim scraps
Blue thread
Wire (optional)

Tools:
Sharp scissors
Sewing machine

1. Iron the wrinkles out of the scraps to prevent curled raindrops. No scraps? No problem! Search your closet for old denim clothes or head to the fabric store.

2. Cut out your raindrops in varying sizes. I made mine 1/2" to 1 1/2". The shape is so simple you can just freehand with your scissors. Do yourself a favour and use sharp scissors.

3. Using blue thread, sew the drops together, alternating colour and sizes, leaving about 1" space between each, until desired length. I made mine 70" long.

4. Hang them up. Depending on where you will be displaying, you can either hang them individually with little tacks, or string them along some wire like I did. Voila!

We see it in every magazine and every online shop today, and I can't tell you how much I love this lace trend that's been going on. With my upcoming July wedding in mind, I can't stop making up reason to wear one of these lovely frocks on the day. With the money I spent on my gown, you best believe that I don't plan on promptly changing into a reception dress, but the idea of stuffing myself into a vehicle at the end of the night, and then arriving at our hotel suite in a wedding dress close to midnight seems a little silly to me. So, it's settled, I must have one for my 'Get-away' outfit. The designs I love most are so very simple, perhaps a DIY dress is in the near future.

oh, let me introduce you....

How many times have you or someone you are with, run into someone they know at, say, the grocery store. The person you are with hasn't met this person, and you absentmindedly continue to have a rundown of how life has been since you've seen eachother last, while the odd person out stands there, in all awkwardness, wondering whether you are going to introduce them. This, I have been victim to countless times.

Okay, so I created this blog about 2 months ago, and quickly abandoned it due to the fact that I'm very close to being classified as computer illiterate. So, please bear with me as I figure this whole blogging thing out. I promise to make an effort to grow this little baby into something I can be proud of (one day).
